TERMS OF USE FOR KLARNAS SHOPPING SERVICE

The following changes have been made since the last update of these Terms:

  • General update to the Terms including clarification of wording and structure;
  • An update to the terms and conditions in the “Sign In With Klarna” (SIWK) section.

When you use Klarna’s Shopping Service, these terms and conditions (“ Terms ”) apply and constitute a binding agreement between Klarna Bank AB (publ) (“ Klarna ”, “ we ”, “ us ” and “ our ”) and you as a user of our Service (“ you ”) regarding the service described below (the “ Service ”). You should read these terms and conditions carefully before using the Service and print a copy to keep for your records and reference. If you do not agree to these Terms and Conditions, you should not use the Service.

These Terms and Conditions do not apply to Klarna’s payment options. If you choose to pay with one of Klarna’s payment options, there are additional Terms and Conditions that apply specifically to that payment. All terms and conditions can be found at  https://www.klarna.com/International/terms-and-conditions .

You can order older versions of the terms and conditions by contacting our customer service.

1. Description of the Service

We have created the Klarna Shopping service (the “Service”) to give you the best possible shopping experience, whether you shop online or in-store. The service provides an efficient and inspiring shopping experience by offering a number of wonderful benefits. Your shopping experience should revolve around you. That is why we thought of you when we created the service and all its benefits. It will simplify shopping, inspire and provide personalized offers, give you control and an overview of what you have bought.

Product links and links to stores in the Service may be sponsored or affiliated, which means that Klarna may earn a commission when you shop through these links.

The service includes the following benefits:

1.1 Creating a Klarna User Account

1.2 Autofill at checkout

1.3 Payment methods are displayed depending on what you choose

1.4 Offers and benefits that you like

1.5 Save your chosen card

1.6 Klarna App

1.7 Klarna Extension

1.8 Sign-in-with-Klarna (“SIWK”)

1.1 Creating a Klarna User Account

When you register for the Service, we will create a user account for you, to give you the full potential of all features of the Service (“Klarna User Account”). Remember to always keep your contact information on your Klarna User Account up to date and add all your relevant delivery addresses.

You can choose to remember your Klarna User Account on a specific device, such as your mobile phone or tablet (the “Remember Me” feature). You can do this on one or more of your devices. You should not use this feature on shared or public devices. By using this feature, you do not need to log in and authenticate your Klarna User Account every time you use Klarna. This will give you a smooth and frictionless shopping experience.

The Remember Me feature   places a device identifier, i.e. a “cookie,” on your device. You can delete all cookies on your device, which will also delete our cookies. For more information, see our  Tracking Technology Notice .

1.2 Autofill at checkout

To give you a smooth and frictionless shopping experience, we will remember certain information about you and use that information to automatically fill in various forms with your information during your shopping. This will save you time and allow you to focus on more important things than filling in the same information over and over again. Let us explain in more detail how this works.

Autofill when you shop with Klarna

When you use Klarna for the first time, you will be asked to create a Klarna User Account to make your future interactions with Klarna smoother. We will retain this information in our systems so that when you return to us or use our Service, you only need to provide us with certain information. We will handle any personal information we collect when creating your Klarna User Account in accordance with our  Data Protection Notice .

When we can identify you, we can automatically fill in certain information about you in the purchase flow, such as name, address, phone number, email, date of birth and card details. Autofill is based on the information stored in your Klarna User Account. An example of when autofill is used is when you shop directly from the Klarna app.

Autofill by entering limited information

When you interact with Klarna, we may ask for information about you, such as your name, address, phone number, email, date of birth or social security number. We will retain this information in our systems so that when you return to us or use our Service, you only need to provide us with certain information such as email and postal code, or social security number (depending on the country) for us to auto-fill the remaining fields with your other information.

Autofill through a Klarna cookie

Another method we may use to automatically fill in your information is by placing a Klarna cookie on your device (computer, tablet, mobile phone, etc.). You can choose to store your information such as name, address, phone number, email, date of birth, social security number and card details with Klarna. If you do, we use the cookie to retrieve that information from Klarna’s storage, and the cookie helps us to automatically fill it in when you shop with Klarna.

For more information about our use of cookies, see our  cookie information .

Disable autofill

If you do not want to use the autofill feature, you can contact us and we will disable it. You can also disable it from the Klarna app or by adjusting your autofill settings during the purchase process. You can delete all cookies on your device at any time, which will also delete our cookie.

1.3 Payment methods are displayed depending on what you choose

We place your payment methods in a certain order based on various factors:

  • If you have selected a preferred payment method
  • If you have previously used a certain payment method
  • If we are required by law to display payment methods in a certain order.

This does not affect which payment methods are available to you, but only the order in which we display them.

1.4 Offers and benefits that you like

Klarna may display offers and benefits such as discounts, special events, priority access to products, sales campaigns, store offers, product samples and gifts. Which offers and benefits you receive are based on, among other things, the number of purchases, the amount you have purchased and/or your use of Klarna’s Services or features. In some cases, special terms and conditions may apply to these offers or benefits. These will be displayed to you in connection with these offers or benefits.

1.5 Save your chosen card

When you make a purchase with Klarna, you can use several different payment options, including debit cards, credit cards or prepaid cards. If you have chosen to pay by card, we will retain your card details until you choose to delete the details or until you close your Klarna User Account. By choosing to save your card details with Klarna, you agree that Klarna will charge the saved card for future purchases with Klarna. You will not be charged until you make a purchase. If the card you have selected as default cannot be charged for a purchase, including for installments or subscriptions, you agree that Klarna will attempt to charge one of the other cards you have registered in your Klarna User Account.

1.6 Klarna App

Klarna’s App is an application that is accessible via your device or the web portal in your browser and acts as your shopping assistant. By using Klarna’s App, you can pay for your purchases, track your packages, get shopping tips and much more. Some of these features are activated when downloading Klarna’s App or logging in to the web portal, while others can be activated by you when you are logged in. Klarna wants to give you the best shopping experience and the opportunity to search for a wide range of stores in Klarna’s App. We may not have a business relationship with all stores that are displayed or searchable in Klarna’s App. In such cases, Klarna acts as a browser or search engine and redirects you to the store’s website in the integrated browser. The exact content of the features may differ depending on the country you are using it in. To name a few of the features we are most proud of:

  • Get an overview of your purchases and transactions made with Klarna
  • Manage your payments
  • Communicate easily with Klarna
  • Personalized recommendations, offers and other content Examples of other features we may offer depending on the country:

  • Shop with Klarna’s payment methods – even in stores that don’t yet use Klarna
  • Track your order, delivery or package
  • Connect your email or third-party accounts to see your orders placed in stores or on devices not related to Klarna

  • Share your transactions with other Klarna users
  • Share your experiences and thoughts with others about stores and products you have purchased by submitting a review.
  • An assistant that provides suggestions for filling in various details (e.g. payment method, card information, delivery address) using automatic filling of information (“ Smart Suggestions ”). The information that is suggested differs depending on the information you have saved with us – both when you use the Klarna App (including any payment methods in the Klarna App) and also Klarna as a payment method at a merchant (see the Autofill section above for more information).
  • View transactions that you have made with one of our subsidiaries Sofort GmbH, Billpay GmbH and Klarna Inc. This will only happen after you have registered with one or more of these subsidiaries. The transaction data (e.g. name, address, bank account number/IBAN, BIC code, reason for payment, date and amount, order information) will then be transferred to Klarna.
  • Simplify the administration of your third-party membership or loyalty card (“Loyalty Card”) through easy access to your Loyalty Card details and hassle-free checkout at the point of purchase with the Klarna app (“ Loyalty Card Service ”).

The Loyalty Card Service does not constitute a business relationship between Klarna and the issuer of the loyalty card. You acknowledge and agree that Klarna shall not be responsible for providing the loyalty card or related services and benefits, or for any damages, claims or other liabilities that may arise from or in connection with your use thereof.

  • Resell your products that you have purchased through Klarna on third-party marketplaces. Klarna reserves the right, at its sole discretion and at any time, to add or remove any of the available marketplaces.

If you choose to resell a product, Klarna will redirect you to a marketplace and automatically populate your ad by sharing your data with the marketplace. Klarna may, at its sole discretion, restrict the use of the Resell feature for certain products. In such a case, the Resell feature will not be available. You acknowledge and agree that your use of third-party marketplaces is governed by the marketplace’s terms and conditions. You also acknowledge and agree that Klarna has no liability with respect to your use of the Resell feature, including, but not limited to, the accuracy of information provided in the ad, the resale of your product, the availability of or use of third-party marketplaces, and any damages, claims or other liabilities arising from or related to your use of third-party marketplaces.

We store information about your purchases and transactions in the Klarna App. As part of the Service provided under these Terms, Klarna allows you to view information about your purchases and transactions in the Klarna App.

If you would like to know more about how Klarna uses this information and other information we have about you, please read our  Privacy Policy .

The Klarna app has sponsored content. Sponsored content is a post that an advertiser has purchased that appears in the Klarna app. It may contain text, an image, a video, and links to a related website that the advertiser has chosen. Sponsored content can be identified by the term  Advertisement ,  Sponsored  , or  Sponsored  which appears either (i) in the middle of the post, below the advertiser’s name, or (ii) as a strip in the upper right corner of the post.

Klarna’s App is available via distribution platforms provided by third parties (“ Application Stores ”). You may need to pre-register with the relevant Application Store. Klarna has no influence on the collection, processing and use of personal data carried out by the respective Application Store operator.

1.7 Special Terms and Conditions for Klarna Extension

1.7.1 General information, acceptance of these Terms, eligibility

“ Klarna Extension ” is a software application provided by Klarna. The terms and conditions (“ Extension Terms ”) in this Section 1.8 apply only to your use of the Klarna Extension (hereinafter “ Extension User ” or “ you ”).

By installing, activating, allowing, using or otherwise accessing the Klarna Extension, you agree to these Extension Terms and Conditions and agree to be bound by them. If you do not agree to these Extension Terms, you should not install, activate, allow or otherwise access the Klarna Extension. The Klarna Extension can be used in Google Chrome and in the future will be available in other supported browsers as well as in your mobile browser. The technical usability of the Klarna Extensions depends on the respective terms of use of these browsers and the technical limitations and specifications of the devices on which the Klarna Extension is to be installed.

An Extension User must be eighteen (18) years of age or older and have a European telephone number to use the Klarna Extension, in addition to the eligibility requirements and Extension Terms set out below. By installing, activating, allowing, using or otherwise accessing the Klarna Extension, you confirm that you are eighteen (18) years of age or older and that these Extension Terms govern your use of the Klarna Extension.

Klarna Extension applies various discount coupons to merchants with online stores that cooperate with and are selected by Klarna (“ Affiliated Stores ”). Affiliated Stores available through Klarna Extension are selected at Klarna’s sole discretion and may vary from time to time. You make all purchases directly from the Affiliated Stores and not from Klarna. The Affiliated Store’s terms and conditions shall apply to purchases made on its website, and Klarna assumes no responsibility for any products or services that you purchase. We have no control over the content of the Affiliated Stores’ websites. Klarna may receive compensation for referring our Klarna Extension users to Affiliated Stores.

There are additional features that can be used when logging in to Klarna Extension, so that you can broaden your shopping experience, for example by using a customized card payment solution (also described below), depending on whether such a feature is available in your market.

1.7.2 Klarna Extension Features and Limitations

Klarna Extension offers several features, some of which are only available to Extension users who have created a Klarna User Account. These features are divided into so-called “ Basic Features ” and so-called “ Extended Features ”. Klarna continuously updates Klarna Extension with new and improved features, and reserves the right to withdraw any of the Basic Features or Extended Features at any time.

Prerequisites for Extended Features

In order to use the Extended Features, the Extension User must first create a Klarna User Account. To create a Klarna User Account, you must provide your contact details, including a valid email address and postal address. Klarna reserves the right to verify your eligibility to create a Klarna User Account. You must ensure that your details in your Klarna User Account are kept up to date. You are responsible for the security and activity carried out through your Klarna User Account. Keep the account details in your Klarna User Account secure.

1.7.3 Basic functions of Klarna Extension

Examples of other Basic Feature(s) that may be available to you depending on the version of Klarna Extension available in your country include the following:

  • Coupons; if the online store you are visiting is one of our Affiliated Stores, when you reach the checkout of the Affiliated Store, you will receive a notification via your browser if there are coupons available and an offer to activate coupons. If you choose to show available coupons, the Basic Function will show you all available coupons for the Affiliated Store. All coupons and discounts are provided by Affiliated Stores. The relevant Affiliated Store’s terms and conditions apply to the coupons. Klarna always strives to provide you with accurate coupons. However, we do not guarantee the availability of coupons or that the coupons or discounts are accurate, complete, up-to-date or error-free, or that such coupons or discounts offer you the lowest price for an item. Klarna may receive a commission on your transaction.
  • Create and share collections of goods or services of your choice.
  • Our price comparison tool. The price comparison tool searches for better prices on the relevant Amazon website by comparing sellers on your behalf. Please note that Amazon and Klarna are not affiliated with each other. Prices on Amazon are subject to change, and the results of our price comparison tool are only valid at the time the comparison is made. Klarna does not become a party to any contract that you enter into with Amazon, nor is it responsible for any problems that arise as a result of contractual relationships that exist between you and third parties. Klarna always strives to provide you with the most complete and accurate information possible. However, we collect information from publicly available sources. Our intention is that all information in relation to the price comparison tool should be correct and up-to-date. However, we cannot guarantee the reliability or accuracy of the information.

1.7.4 Extended functions for Klarna Extension

Examples of Extended Feature(s) that may be available to you depending on the version of Klarna Extension available in your country include the following:

Disposable card

An Extended Feature is the use of the One-Time Card service – one of Klarna’s available payment services. The use of the One-Time Card service is governed by the One-Time Card terms and conditions found  here .

1.7.5 Inactive accounts

If your Account is inactive for twelve (12) consecutive months or more, Klarna may also cease to maintain the information in your Klarna User Account in connection with your use of the Klarna Extension and your access to the Klarna Extension. To reactivate your Klarna User Account, you should contact our  customer service .

1.8 Sign-in-with-Klarna (SIWK)

Sign In With Klarna (“SIWK”) helps you securely and easily log in and authenticate to third-party apps and services using your Klarna account. You don’t need to remember individual usernames or passwords for each app or service. These third-party apps or services are provided by companies other than Klarna. If you don’t already have an account with the third-party app or service, the shared details will be used to sign you up for the service, which usually involves creating a new account with the third-party.

When you use SIWK on a third-party app or service, Klarna will share your name and email address from your Klarna user account with that third party. With some third-party apps or services, you will also be given the opportunity to share additional information of your own choosing. The third party will use the shared information to check whether you already have an existing account with the third party and to log you in if so. If you do not have an account with the third-party app or service, the shared information will instead be used to facilitate the creation of an account with the third party. If you use SIWK on a third-party app or service, Klarna will continuously share the information you have approved with the third party. For example, if you update the information in your Klarna user account, Klarna will share these updates with the third-party app or service. Depending on the enabled features of the third-party app or service, SIWK may automatically log you into your Klarna account when you make a purchase with the third-party app or service, eliminating the need for a manual login with a separate authentication method.

You can stop the third-party app from receiving information from your Klarna user account at any time. You do this via the Klarna app or by contacting our customer service. Please note that this withdrawal of permission for Klarna to share information will not affect the third-party account.

When you use SIWK, neither Klarna has access to your third-party account nor does the third party have access to your Klarna user account.

Important: In addition to the information that Klarna shares with the third party, the third party may request additional information directly from you. This additional information will not be shared with Klarna. This information will be used by the third-party app or service as described in their privacy policy or elsewhere. Please make sure you read these before using SIWK with a particular third party.

2. Are there any costs for the Service?

Klarna grants the Extension User a non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable right to use Klarna Extension. The service described in these Terms including the functions of the Klarna app is free of charge, unless otherwise expressly stated. If you use one of Klarna’s payment options, different terms and conditions apply and interest and fees may be charged. Therefore, please check the details provided for the payment method you have chosen.

3. Changes to the Service and the Terms

We may make changes to these Terms from time to time, for example when updating the Klarna App or Klarna Extension. We will notify you 30 days in advance of such a change. If you do not agree to the changes, you may contact customer service to terminate this Agreement. More information on how to terminate this Agreement can be found in the section “Duration and termination of this Agreement” below. Klarna also has the right at any time and without prior notice to downgrade, limit or otherwise change the scope and/or content of the Service and/or correct, vary or amend these Terms, to the extent we deem necessary.

4. Data protection and your personal data

How Klarna processes your personal data when providing our services is described in our  Privacy Policy . There you can also find more information about your rights regarding your personal data, as well as how to contact us if you have any questions.

5. Your obligations

When using the Service, you must always provide accurate information and use your real identity. As described in Section 12, you must always keep your contact information up to date. Using information that does not belong to you, or that you are otherwise not authorized to use, or using the Service in a manner that is inconsistent with these Terms, will be considered abuse. You may not use the Service in a manner that violates any applicable law or to purchase any item that is illegal in your country. You may not use any software or device that is designed to interfere with the Service or collect personal information or other information of others.

If you upload, share or import content to Klarna, such as images, texts, reviews, receipts, information about goods, nicknames, services or deliveries or other content, you grant Klarna a royalty-free, worldwide sublicensable and transferable right to use and display the content for the purpose of providing the Service. You acknowledge that by sharing content with others, you are making the content publicly available, which means that information about you is made available to others and can be used and shared by other people. You may only upload, publish or share content that you have the right to use and that does not violate laws or other regulations, these Terms or the rights of third parties.

We have the right to remove content uploaded or shared by you if we are required to do so by law, or if we believe that the content is offensive, illegal, infringes the rights of others or is otherwise inappropriate. You are responsible for all content uploaded, published or shared by you. You agree not to upload, publish or share content that is illegal, fraudulent, abusive, threatening, infringes the rights of others, is offensive or criminal (e.g. hate speech, child pornography or illegal depictions of violence) or transmit content that contains viruses, Trojan horses, spyware, adware, malware or other harmful or dangerous software; distribute unsolicited advertising (spam) or engage in any other form of harassment. Klarna reserves the right, without any obligation, to monitor, review, adjust, disable or remove content for the reasons mentioned above. You acknowledge and agree that if you upload, import or share content that is abusive, threatening or offensive, or that violates, or that Klarna can reasonably assume significantly violates, law or your agreement with Klarna, we may terminate or disable your use of the Service.

You are solely responsible for your uploading, posting and sharing of content and agree to indemnify and hold Klarna harmless from any damages, losses or costs arising from your uploading, posting or sharing of content, including in connection with any third party claims against Klarna, to the extent that you are liable for such damages, losses or costs under applicable law.

To the extent that you cause us to process data about you, e.g. by uploading, publishing or sharing data in Klarna’s App, which expresses your political or philosophical beliefs, trade union membership, data about health, biometrics, sex life, sexual orientation or sexual practices, etc. or other particularly sensitive personal data according to the intention of applicable national laws, you give your explicit consent to us processing this data to perform our Service.

6. Login and security

You must keep your Klarna User Account login details secure. The Service may only be used by you, the holder of the Klarna User Account, and not by anyone else. You may not make purchases on behalf of others using the Service or your Klarna User Account. You may not grant access to the Service or your Klarna User Account to anyone else for any purpose. Any access by others shall be considered unauthorized access to your Klarna User Account. Any information relating to misuse or suspected misuse may be saved and used for future risk assessment. Klarna also reserves the right to terminate or disable your use of the Service without prior notice in the event of a significant breach of your security obligations.

Once you have logged in, you may remain logged in until you actively log out or until you have been inactive for 60 days, at which point you will be automatically logged out. To avoid unauthorized use of the Service on your behalf or accidental disclosure of your personal information, you must ensure that only you have access to your login details and that you always log out of your Klarna User Account if you leave your computer or device unattended. You are responsible for any unauthorized use of your Klarna User Account or accidental disclosure of your personal information due to loss of login details or leaving your computer or device unattended.

Klarna has implemented additional security features to keep your account secure and prevent unauthorized access to your account. These measures also include measures to help you keep your information up to date, for example if Klarna detects discrepancies or changes to your Klarna user account information that you have not actively updated.

If at any time you wish to terminate your Klarna User Account, you may make a request to do so by contacting our  customer service . Alternatively, you may simply stop using your Klarna User Account. If you terminate your Klarna User Account by contacting customer service or if we terminate your Klarna User Account, all of your unused points will be forfeited on the termination date.

7. General

If there is a conflict between these Terms and any other terms and conditions associated with any other marketing materials regarding the Services, these Terms will prevail.

8. Services from other companies

Some features that you may choose to use may include services provided directly to you by companies other than Klarna, such as tracking features from logistics companies. When you use such features that rely on services from other companies, you agree that Klarna uses these services on your behalf. We make no warranty or assume any responsibility for the quality, accuracy, source, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or any other aspect of these third-party features.

If you use Google Maps in connection with the Service, for example by searching for your address in the address bar,  the Google Maps/Google Earth Terms of Use  and Google’s  Privacy Policy apply . To prevent abuse of the Service, Klarna may also use reCAPTCHA, in which case Google’s  Terms of Use  and  Privacy Policy apply .

9. Duration and termination

This Agreement is valid until either you or Klarna terminates it. You may terminate the Agreement at any time by contacting customer service. You may not terminate the Agreement if you have an outstanding payment or if you are using a service provided by Klarna that is either time-limited (and has not expired) or a service that has a notice period that has not expired. Klarna may terminate the Agreement at any time by sending you an email with 30 days’ notice. If the Agreement is terminated, you will no longer be able to use the Service.

Please note that upon termination of this Agreement for any of the reasons mentioned above, you will no longer be able to use the Service, which includes any features provided in or managed via the Klarna App.

10. No right of withdrawal (“right to change”)

By entering into this agreement, you consent to the provision of the Service, and thereby agree that there is no right of withdrawal. However, you may withdraw your consent at any time.

11. Limitation of liability
